Tips in solving sudoku puzzles

from: Forsgrens

Sudoku puzzles has become a world wide craze, taking the United States, the United Kingdom and the rest of the European countries by storm. For such a seemingly simple game, this is quite an achievement especially when compared to other hugely popular games that are all technologically enhanced.

Sudoku puzzles are games of logic that has 9 x 9 grid. Each puzzle has 9 columns, 9 rows and 9 squares. In each square, the player will find another 9 empty boxes where he or she must write a number. Only numbers 1 to 9 can be placed there.

The objective of the game is to fill up all the empty boxes with numbers without repeating any number in the same row, column and square. This can be very difficult as there are about 81 little boxes that you have to fill up.

A sudoku puzzle will only have one correct answer so it is important that one places or writes down the best answer to one square. One wrong answer will start a series of wrong answers in other boxes. Remember that numbers in sudoku puzzles are interconnected. One number will depend upon the surrounding numbers.

One good news for people is that players need not fill up all 81 empty boxes. Sudoku puzzles have some numbers filled up already as clues to help the players solve the puzzle. Although for the most part, the more the numbers filled up the easier the sudoku puzzle is, there are instances when the placement of the numbers makes the puzzle more difficult despite having a lot of clues.

Below are some tips on how to solve sudoku puzzles the right way.

1. Create your own technique

Although there are ready made techniques and strategies that can be found over the net, there is no beating the strategies that you make yourself. Of course, if you are still beginning to solve the puzzles, you will most likely need some start up techniques.

Go ahead and try some of the strategies that you will come across in your research. As you practice and solve sudoku puzzles on your own, you will get the hang of it and start to understand the dynamics of the puzzle. This is the time to develop a technique of your own.

2. Never guess

Even though you feel that you are knocking upon the wrong tree, try to concentrate on the puzzle and really think about the answer to the problem. This way, you are exercising your mind and preparing it for other sudoku puzzles.

Most beginners will not be able to solve their first few puzzles but after constant practice, they will eventually complete one. The secret is to try to solve the puzzles on your own and never guess. Trial and error will work. Just have patience and slowly complete the answers to the problem. Remember that this is not called a game of logic for nothing. You really have to use logical sequence to find the answer.

3. Look for groups that are nearly complete

Look at the puzzles and search for groups that are nearly complete or those that involve the fewest blank boxes. This may be a column, a row or a square. This groups are easier to solve and will eventually open avenues to solving other parts of the puzzle.
